VIRTUS Training – Information for Volunteers working with our children
Archbishop Hebda has addressed the need for all volunteers who have contact with children to attend a VIRTUS: Protecting God’s children for Adults environment training. In an effort to protect all God’s children the United States conference of Bishops has implemented The Charter for the Protection of Children and Youth Initiative which requires all volunteers who have regular contact with children by helping at their parish religious education programs, Catholic School, or parish youth ministry programs to attend a Virtus training. This training only needs to be done once. This training is preferably to be completed before classes begin or must be done at least within 30 days of being involved with any volunteer activity where children are present. This is only one session and does not have to be repeated at this time. Along with this training, you will also need to complete a criminal background check, (classroom aides, catechists and all subs).
We appreciate all our volunteers and we hope you understand that this is all about protecting and keeping our children safe in their parish educational environments. We are very excited that you have volunteered to help, you are a precious gift and we could not do it without you! These classes are held throughout the diocese several times a month.
